May 19 - Celta/Celtic: Grieve No More (Patty Gurdy)

Patricia Büchler, conocida profesionalmente como Patty Gurdy, es una zanfoñista, cantante, compositora y YouTuber alemana. Después de tocar el piano y otros instrumentos durante muchos años, en 2014 empezó a tocar la zanfoña y describe su género como folk-pop oscuro.

La zanfoña no es un instrumento celta como tal, pero su sonido sí que tiene similitudes con las gaitas. Se originaron en la época medieval, aunque se desarrollaron y mejoraron considerablemente siglos más tarde.

Patty Gurdy comenzó a volverse más famosa hace ya varios años gracias a The Longing. Grieve No More es una de las canciones que ha compuesto para la serie Carnival Row. Me encanta tanto la canción como el vídeo por los sentimientos mágicos que evoca. Por no hablar la emoción en sus gritos antes del último estribillo doble.

También intentó participar en Eurovisión el año pasado con Melodies Of Hope pero, desafortunadamente, quedó en última posición respecto al resto de canciones propuestas para representar a Alemania. 

Otra banda que me encanta donde la zanfoña tiene un gran protagonismo es Cellar Darling, que se formó después de ciertos desacuerdos y conflictos dentro de Eluveitie. Os recomiendo absolutamente Insomnia y Love, Pt. II.

Patricia Büchler, known professionally as Patty Gurdy, is a German hurdy-gurdy musician, singer, songwriter and YouTuber. After playing the piano and other instruments for many years, she took up the hurdy-gurdy in 2014 and describes her genre as dark folk-pop.

The hurdy-gurdy is not a Celtic instrument as such, but its sound does have similarities with bagpipes. They originated in medieval times, although they were developed considerably centuries later.

Patty Gurdy began to become more famous several years ago thanks to The Longing. Grieve No More is one of the songs she has composed for the series Carnival Row. I love both the song and the video because of the magical feelings it evokes. Not to mention the excitement in her screams before the last double chorus.

She also tried to take part in Eurovision last year with Melodies Of Hope but, unfortunately, she came in last position compared to the rest of the songs proposed to represent Germany.

Another band I love where the hurdy-gurdy plays a major role is Cellar Darling, which was formed after certain disagreements and conflicts within Eluveitie. I absolutely recommend Insomnia and Love, Pt. II.
