May 9 - Épicas/Epic: Warrior Princess (David Chappell ft. Julie Elven)

Hoy toca una de esas canciones que cumplen las dos temáticas a la vez, aunque he querido clasificarla como épica porque lo merece. Su compositor es el escocés David Chappell, mientras que la cantante es Julie Elven, situada en Múnich, Alemania. Tanto David como Julie se han involucrado en música para videojuegos, para quien le interese esta vertiente.

Un momento... ¿no acabas de decir que la canción no tiene letra?, os preguntaréis. Así es: Warrior Princess entra dentro de lo que se conoce como música instrumental. ¿Cuál es el truco? Fácil: las voces inarticuladas. Y, aquí, la voz de Julie Elven genera una armonía perfecta con el resto de instrumentos. Este tema tiene un comienzo muy calmado, pero se anima rápidamente, y expresa mucha frescura. 

Podemos encontrar esta melodía dentro del álbum End Of Silence - A World Of Color de David Chappell, otro de los que merece la pena escuchar de principio a fin. La que abre el disco, Polaris, con Kamila Nývltová, es excepcional y del mismo estilo, mientras que Entropy, con Alexa Ray, sí que tiene letra, y es igualmente maravillosa.

Otro compositor de este tipo de música que me encanta es Ivan Torrent, quien de hecho también ha colaborado con Julie Elven: un ejemplo es Icarus. Además, os recomiendo Dandelion y The Bounds of the Universe, también de Reverie. Su siguiente álbum, Immortalys, es una vez más de una calidad excelente. Y ahora tengo pendiente el último, Onyria.

Ya que antes he hablado de música de videojuegos, dejaré Phoenix por aquí. Y no podía despedirme sin antes mencionar al bien conocido Thomas Bergersen, de Two Steps From Hell, y su Children of the Sun con Merethe Soltvedt. ¿A quién vais a rescatar hoy? No hace falta que sea ninguna princesa, ni tenéis que derrotar a ningún dragón o ir a ningún castillo. De hecho, las princesas también rescatan gente por estos lares :)

Today is the turn of one of those songs that fulfills both themes at the same time, although I want to classify it as epic because it deserves so. Its composer is the Scottish David Chappell, while the vocalist is Julie Elven, based in Munich, Germany. Both David and Julie have been involved in music for video games, for those who are interested in this regard.

Hold on a second... didn't you just say that the song has no lyrics?, you might ask. That's right: Warrior Princess falls into what we call instrumental music. Where is the catch? Simple: the inarticulate vocals. And, here, Julie Elven's voice blends in perfect harmony with the rest of the instruments. This song has a very calm beginning, but it livens up quickly, and expresses a lot of freshness.

We can find this melody on the album End Of Silence - A World Of Color by David Chappell, another one worth listening to from start to finish. The opening song, Polaris, with Kamila Nývltová, is exceptional and with a similar style, while Entropy, with Alexa Ray, does have lyrics, and is equally wonderful.
